My regulator has 3 terminals bat, field and L. Where does the arm. on the generator go to? I just got the tractor and the wires have been replaced but not hooked up. Could this be the wrong reg. Its new but not hooked up. Thanks This is my first question but probally not my last.

Sorry it took so long to get back I"ve been on nights shift. You were both right it has a post for the arm. on the bottom. I just came back from the garage and hooked it up and it checks out fine. Just shows what asking the right people will do for you..Thanks guys. Don"t run off I"m sure I"ll be back with another question later.

HIG, If the three terminal all together side by side are actually labled BAT FLD & LOAD, it sounds to me like its really a 4 terminal VR and on many of those the ARM terminal is off on one side or the bottom all by itself.

BAT wires to the load side of the ammeter
ARM wires to the gennys Arm post
FLD wires to the gennys Field post
L (Load) feeds hot battery voltage to all loads often by wiring to the BAT input terminal on lights or ignition switches

It may or may not be the wrong regulator but regardless it can be made to work if wired correct i.e. a 3 terminal can be made to work if it was originally equipped with a 4 and vice versa a 4 can be made to work where there was originally a 3 with minor wiring modifications.

The late model A's used the 4 terminal VR so it may well be the correct unit and will work fine if wired correct and the genny is polarized

Did you look on the bottom side of the regulator?
