had the OC3 up and running numerous time in the past month; all of a sudden, even with fully charged battery, engine would not turn over more than once or twice; suspected the starter, had it completely rebuilt and it needed to be done; reinstalled it this AM, same problem; suspected bad starter switch; jumped curent past it but no go; suspect the problem is electrical but don't know where to go, what to do now. All and all suggestions appreciated. T hanks; PC

Thanks to all you guys who responded; problem was a faulty "new" battery; was putting out less than 50% of cranking amps need for the starter to do its job. Wish I had started with the batt and saved myself cost of a starter rebuild that probably need not have been done. Never have to deal with the starter...small consolation. Pass the word along if the problem like this is ever posted again: CHECK THE BATTERY FIRST. PC

Have you put any new battery or starter cables on? I ran into a similiar problem wtih my OC-3 and discovered that the new cables were too light weight. Went heavier and the problem was solved. Might be that one of yours has partially broken inside the insulation.

Saw this on the AC board- check that the starter is grounding to the frame. AC tractors have just one wire going to the starter, so the current goes to ground through the frame. Rust between the starter and mounting casting will not allow a complete circuit.

Even a fully charged battery can develope a dead cell. Change to another known good battery and see if it helps. Make sure all battery connections are clean and tight.//FB

had battery tested at ag equipment repair; altho new in Jan, was putting out less than 50% of required cranking amps. You were right on this one. Wish I had started with the batt and saved m yself the cost of starter rebuild. O well, should not ever have to deal with the starter again.
Thanks a bunch and pass it on the next time you see a problem posting like mine. PC
