Case 930 Steering Pump

I recently tore aprart the power steering pump on a 1962(?) case 930 with a Ross assisting cylinder.

The face plates on each side of the pump case have rediculous ammounts of wear on them, and since they are part of the case and case iron, they are not repairable.

The pump only has one identifing casting mark on it, and that is "Eaton", the brand. There are no other numbers on the pump which makes it difficult to identify to find a replacement.

I am looking for information on this pump, and even a replacemnt pump, or a pump case that is in better shape. Any help is appreciated.

I just had a rebuild on a 1958 Eaton-Vickers power steering pump (obsolete now) and it was done by a very knowledgeable staff at Pro-Active Fluid Power in Michigan (800-398-5733 or www.proactivefluidpower.com ). I would suggest that you phone them and possibly email a photo of your pump and hopefully they can tell you something about it. It may be helpful to have the pump partly disassembled so they can see some of the insides. Good luck and tell us how you make out.

Just after my original post I got some time on my hands and chucked the two halves of the pump up in a 4-jaw lathe. After leveling the surface and centering the bore I cut the worn faces down flat and adjusted all of the depths.

Long story short, this restored the pump to original. It looks like you could take about .040" off of each side of the pump. Depending on the severity of the wear this means that each pump could be machined two or three times.

This pump was worn pretty bad as it took about a .020" cut on each half of the shell.
