I was using my 450 diesel and the engine started cutting out and eventually it died. It will start on gas but will not run on diesel. I did not run out of diesel but thought maybe I had gotten air inside somehow so I tried bleeding the air. I don"t have fuel in the aux filter to even get fuel to the bleed valve on top. And obviously there is no fuel at the top of the primary either. Is there a filter on the injector pump that may be clogged? The injector pump is an American Bosch brand and my repair manual does not show this model. Can anyone help?

Start at the bowl base, take the line lose and see if fuel comes out there,if not remove the base from the tank and clean it out good. Good luck geo.

I checked the filter in the tank where the valve screws into the tank. This thing was stopped up completely. I drained the tank and looked in the tank and the crud inside is unbelievable. Will have to clean the tank out and probably put a coating inside. However, I put some more diesel in and bled the air and it runs fine on diesel. Thanks to all for the help. Especially John who suggested I check the filter in the tank.

There will be a filter on top of the tap in the tank (or should be) take it out and clean the filter and the tap, remove the fuel line and make sure it is clean, take off next section of fuel line and make sure that is clean too until you have done the whole system. Fit new filters if you haven't already done so, even if they look clean they will be full of crud from the bottom of the tank. If the tank looks to have crud in it, remove it and clean it out or you will continue to have problems. Filter all fuel as you fill the tractor. The fuel lift pump is almost certain to have a filter, remove it and clean it and the chamber that it is in.

I didn't know there is a filter in the tank. Will check that.
