I am trying to rebuild a distributer that has a very worn shaft where the bearnings are. The shaft has a gear on the bottom so that part of the shaft is ok. How can I build up these area about .012? Has anyone ever tried JB weld. I have a lathe that I can remachine it with. I thought of hard chrome but that is expensive and would need grinding.

Refer back a couple of days on YT forums to a post on cast iron repair. There are photos of shaft repairs by turn down and rebuild by spray metal then remachined.Shows to be professional.

I doubt the JB weld would last very long.

Try building up with brazing and then cut to size on your lathe.Ron Mn.

Delco distributor?

I have repaired some worn tractor distibutors by finding an automotive distrbutor of similar make and design, and swapping the shaft from the car distributor into the tractor distributor.

It's probably easier to find a CAR distributor with a good shaft than finding a tractor distributor.

Depending upon what all you swap, be sure to keep the tractor's mech advance weights and cam.

The car distributor's shaft can be cut to length, and a new hole for the gear or dive coupling can be drilled as needed.
