I purchased a John Deere industrial tractor,( 3 cyl.gas), and discovered that the #2 cylinder spark plug wire was so corroded,(green corrosion), that the cylinder was not firing, I don't know how long it has been this way,and I assume the piston rings are heavily carboned, causing my engine to use oil, (1/4 qt. in 2 to 3 hrs. use). Any one know of a way to clean the carbon from those rings, using a chemical additive? I replaced the wire, spark plugs, and dist. cap, of course. Thanks, Ray

Thanks, Richard, but I did check compression, all cylinders checked out within 5 p.s.i. of each other, but I feel I am getting some blow-by, due to the rings not giving the proper "seal", when engine is in operation.-Ray

Couple things you can do. Put a little tranny fluid in each cylinder. Also put a little in the oil and the gas. About a pint in the oil if a 5 QT. system and about a QT. in 10 gallions of gas. Doing that will clean the rings, valve, and the carbon. Cheaper then MMO and works as good.

Ray about the only way you will know what is up with it is to run a compression test. Problem is if the engine went a while that way that cyd probably is "washed Out". All gas, no oil. Just my 2 cents, Richard
