Bought a truck that has stick on lettering that you can remove with a heat gun. But after removing the lettering, there is still some adhesive residue. Any suggestions on what to use to remove that residue without damaging the paint? I am thinking MEK or acetone would hurt the paint.

GOOF-OFF will take it off, should be available at the grocery store with the other cleaning products

at the body shop we use a rubber wheel on an air grinder, then follow up with a wax and grease remover like prep sol or final wash. stop by a body shop supply store ask them for the wheel to remove pinstripes. its about 4 1/2 inches in diameter, about 1/2 inch thick, tan in color and is looks like a pencil eraser. it takes stripes and decals off real fast and doesnt damage the paint.

Plain ol' rubbing alcohol. Just pour it onto a soft cloth or even a paper towel and start gently rubbing. that residue will come right off and will not harm the paint. I learned this trick way back in 1970 when it was my job to clean up the used cars and trucks at the local Ford dealership.

might try Goof-Off also. read the contents first to see what warnings it may have for paint.

Go to the hardware store and by the glue they should have some stuff called goo gone, it works great. It wont hurt the paint either.

WD40 did not work, but this 3M stuff looks promising. Think an autoparts house would have it? or some speciality store that caters to the car painting folks?
