I am having trouble sliding the pto shaft out of my 9n. I have the top cover off, and can see the shaft does not want to go through the pump. The shaft slides back about 2 inches then stops.Any ideas would be appreciated!!!

It is possible for an abused PTO shaft to twist so badly in the splines that they will no longer pass through the pump. Getting rough will only wreck the pump's innards.

If the shaft is in fact twisted, typically folks cut them off at the front and rear of the pump with a sawzall, dropping the pump to get out the last piece.

Thanks for your quick reply!!!!
I took a look inside the housing, and it looks like I can cut the back of the shaft behind the pump. Will the pump and the rest of the shaft drop out the bottom? It appears the pump is bolted to the back of the trans. Any thoughts? Thanks, Mike

I would split at the back and werk on the splins so I could git it to slide thru the pump, I don't think to much 'bout cut'in the shaft. Looks like you are gonna have'ya split it enny ways to git to the front part of the shaft. Then you kin make sure the replacment shaft fits into the pto support, you may need to check the sliding coupler in the pto support. I have had to file the splines in it to to git a shaft to fit rite.
