I am putting a VG4D back together and need to find out the correct compression for the pistons. I have found the ratio in my shop manual, but no place does it say the correct compression for testing. Also, have a fully working VG4D for sale, came off a industrial leaf blower, hand crank. Also have the bell housing for the Rockford clutch which was on this past VG4D - no other clutch parts. In Reading, PA

I have a Wisconsin shop manual around somewhere that MAY have the compression "spec's". I'll take a look at the shop later.

However, since you have an extra good-running engine, you can get a pretty good idea by running a compression check on it.

Probably even MORE important than a specific compression number is that all the cylinders are very close in compression. Look for less than 5 PSI variation between all the numbers, indicating all cylinders and valves are in similar, good condition.

Ichecked the shop manual and a few others I have an they just speak of ratios. Did a test and they all came in arounf 65. Sounded great on the floor, put it in, got it ready and fired her up. ack to running on 2 or 3 ut certainly not 4. Ran for aout 10 minutes, lost all hydraulics, huge bought of sparks and then the smoke overwhelmed me. Think I might have killed piston 3. Looks like that other engine will be going in this unit sooner than thought.
Thanks
