I just got my new stepped head pistons from TISCO only to notice that they are stepped more than the factory ones were. Are there any clearance issues that anybody knows about?

back in the olden days when i was a kid, you milled the heads to raise compression for your hot rod. you put modeling clay on the top of the piston, put the head gasket (we used the old one) and the head on, snug up some head bolts and turn the motor over by hand. the piston would compress the clay and you could measure the thickness of the clay to see if you had clearance. that may work for you. also, measure the distance from the top of the wristpin hole to the top of the step on the piston and compare it with an old one. they should be pretty close, could be the wristpin sits higher on the new piston, that would drop the piston a little in the cylinder.

Well first need to know what tractor and what head . Now here is one way to find out if things are going to fit . Put one piston on the rod and the bearing in the rod and put that piston in the hole hooked to the crank place the head on with the valves in place and put it on the block with no gskt. and just put a few bolts in and snug them up to hold the head down put the push rods on and the rocker arms on and adjust then as you would next turn the engine over SLOWLY by hand if it stops then something is hitting if it turns all the way around then your good to go and when ya put the head gskt on that will add to the clearance . Realy the only time that ya may have a problem is if your working on a Farmall with a LP head and ya try and use the 8500 Ft. high alt. pistons then they will hit the head and valves .
