I have an 8N that I restored and use all the time, and now I think I would like to restore something from the previous generation. What kind of tractor do you think would make the most rewarding restoration project?

Yes, I like the idea of restoring a Fordson, but I have heard they aren't really great runners. I've heard they're really hard to start; the engine develops very little power; and a lot of the engine's power is absorbed by a somewhat inefficient transmission. So I thought maybe I'd try to find something that was just a better-running tractor in the first place, and that might actually be useable. Now, all you Fordson fans out there, if you think I'm wrong about your favorite tractor, please feel free to tell me so! I have an open mind toward the Fordson, actually. And please make more suggestions. Thanks.

A restoration / show project and a 'runner / worker ' tractor sometimes are 2 different things.

Sounds like you want a worker that can also pull a parade or two on the weekends??

As a reference, try looking at the Tractor Photos link on the left side of the page. Might see something you like. Or, go to an antique auction and look at the different tractors. I don't have any color barriers when it comes to antiques. I like tractors because they're tractors. When something catches my eye, I might get it, I might not.(More often not, thanks to my loving wife) But, I just look for something that catches my eye.

Find you a rare tractor such as an Earthmaster. They are small nimble light enough to haul in the back of a 1/2 ton truck and are a great conversation starter.
