My tach.rpm gauge has not worked since I purchased. I ordered and received the two tach. cables and installed. Still does not work and gauge appears to be runing in reverse. Is there a missing part that I need to change the rotation from the small cable located in the resavor to the larger cable to the gauge?

I think ya got the wrong tach.

Is yours running from a genny drive, or from an engine mount drive?

Does your cluster read from right to left?

Seems to be the stock tach. The cable is to the engine drive not from a genny, although this 4000 was converted to an alternator set up. The tach. reads from right to left. Thanks for any advice.

The post by ford farmer seems to fill in the needed info.. the aux tach drive under the oil filter is backwards of the one ont he genny.. thus a new style cluster is needed to match.. etc.

Sounds like that is right! I will have to figure out how to reverse the drive some how.

I'm pretty sure there is another cluster available.

Like I said this particular tractor had the original gen. removed and an alt. put onto it. The tach. gauge is original and turns clock-wise but the small cable in the drive below the oil filter snapped into. Must have snapped when the conversion from gen. to alternator happed. What is a guy to do now....sure would like to watch a tach. when working it.

The answer seems simple...Either get the alternator with a tach drive, a generator with the tach drive ( both with cable ) or get a new cluster and cable.

My 4600 and 7600 have the tach drive below the oil fliter, and tachs that turn counter-clockwise. My 7000's tach drive is off the rear of the injection pump, and the tach is clockwise. My 3000 has a genny-driven tach, and the tach is clockwise (as was the 5000 that I no longer have). All these are original, Ford tachs.
