I have recently bought a 1975 D8K. And the darn thing just won't stay cool. It has a newer rad in it, and its clean as a whip. Water pump is fine and the coolant levels are right up. It says a wee bit cooler when I have the fan blades turned so its sucking threw the front. But then I get heated out of my seat. Any ideas fellas? I am fresh out. Thanks.

Once everything else has been checked/cleaned, gone thru, yada, yada, might try some water wetter.
Some of the part stores will carry it, also might try the fire departments.

Get the Aspirator straightened out first and then we can talk about this on the Heavy iron board. You could be feeding exh into the intake. Better check for a burned air cleaner element too.

don't they make a reverse fan blade, one that blows the air out through the rad.
I've seen them on construction sites
they were refered to as summer blades.

Ya i have checked it all, I have run D8H's since the early 70's and they never gave any problems like this. Its just got me out of ideas, the heads are fine i am sure, it doesn't loose water after a long day, and she doesn't smoke at all. just under idle alittle black smoke but thats typical to the engine. I have heard horror stories of 8K's on hot summer days having to shut down because of heating problems. but never encountered one that acted up UNTILL I BOUGHT ONE!! haha imagine that!

The only other thing that comes to mind is that if the transmission or torque converter were running hot and dumping very hot oil into the oil cooler causing the cooling system to over heat. I have worked on a few of these old tractors and have seen the oil coolers leak and turn the anti-freeze to a chocolate milk shake, also have seen the impellar come off the water pump. Good Luck. Sometimes the simplest things are hard to find.

The D-8K we used to have at the mining company always ran hot when the heads would crack. We were told by the dealer service dept, that it would crack the head when pushing on a hill side and the water was low one one side, and the water hit the spot that did not have coolant and would crack there. We cured it by trading it for an 850 John Deere.

Does it have the right fan or could the belt be slipping? Maybe whoever had it before had it set up for winter work so it would keep them warm in the cold. Dave

Have you checked the relief valve on the top radiator tank? Thermostat? Does it blow water out the pipe from the relief valve. Hope it's not a cracked head. Cats like to crack heads if run low on water. Just a few thoughts.
