i have a farmall c. trator sat for winter months, starting up occasionaly. went to change oil had some coolant come out.
do not see any oil in radiator. does this mean head gasket or a cracked block. how do i check for either one, and what to do to replace.

thank you for your responce.it was the head gasket causing coolant in oil. replaced gaket, had head shaved, replaced spark plugs, new wire set, dist. cap and rotor. adjusted timing. now i have a loss of power from engine. will not allow me to move it without dying out. i have to let it sit a bit before i can start back up. at full throttle the rpm"s are very low.

As Gearge and DCW both indicated..pull the pan and see if there are drips from the sleeve..that is the most likely source if the tractor was only sporatically started during the off season.Assuming your antifreeze solution was up to snuff, it is highly unlikely that you have a cracked block or head.

The best thing to do is to let the tractor sit inside, drain the oil and let it sit so that all the oil has the opportunity to run out, then pull the pan with the engine cold.Antifreeze will run past the liner O-ring faster on a cold engine, and will be easier to see.If the coolant is coming from the head gasket or head itself, the coolant will come down the oil drain back passages, and send you in that direction.

As I recall, those engines don't have a lot of head studs in them, only 8.They would be more inclined to leak from a head gasket than an H or an M.I had a 1950 C wide front.

That being a wet liner engine , I would pull
the pan and watch to see where it is coming
from . If a liner seal is leaking it will be
coming down the outside of the liner.

Could be a nuber of things. Ya maybe a head gasket, or cracked head or block or maybe theres a freeze plug in the head under the valve cover that has come loose. Any way about the only way to check is to open it up and cross your fingers that its not a crack head or block
