I have a 1959 JD 730 Diesel, electric start. It has a 12 v system and a 24 v starter. I have a problem losing the charge in my batteries. I have replaced the generator and the alternator and I still have the problem. I have been told it probably is a problem with my ground, but I can't figure it out. Can someone help?

NOT SURE WHAT YOU PROBLEM IS, BUT ON MY TRACTOR I HAVE A GROUNDING SWITCH. WHEN YOU SHUT OFF THE TRACTOR, YOU TURN OFF THE GROUNDING SWITCH AND WITH NO CURCUIT, NO DISCHARGE DRAW. PARTS STORES SELL THESE FOR OVER THE ROAD TRUCKS. IT BOLTS TO FRAME AND GROUND CABLE BOLTS TO SWITCH.

"I have replaced the generator and the alternator"

Do you mean the generator and the voltage regulator.?

A likely cause of the battery drain is brush debris in the starter creating a current leakage path beteen the electrically "HOT" parts inside this unusual starter and it's housing.

The solenoid can cause problems; too; as well as the switch and possible mis-wiring.
