Easy way to cut hose

Yesterday while installing a new radiator hose, I needed to shorten it by about 3/4 inch. I was trying to cut it with a tile/razor knife. It was not working well. I had a cup of soapy water there that I had used to help me slip the air clean tube on. So I decided to try and lubricate the razor blade with the soapy water and lo and behold it cut the radiator hose like a hot knife through butter almost. Apparently the friction between the hose and sides of the blade are what hamper the cutting. Remember that when cutting any rubber products. "A little lube will do ya!"

Wet rubber is much easier to cut. I once read an article about tires. It seems that there are many more flat tires in the rain, since the water allows nails, etc to puncture the tire much easier..

That's an old trick using soap. i remember way back in shop class, you could take a wood screw and rub it on a bar of hard soap and it would screw into wood with ease.

I've got a set of pvc cutters that say to lube the blade with petro-jelly every 10 cuts.. then use pipe 'cleaner' to clean pipe before applying glue.. etc.
