Sirs, !947 JD D with no pto and with electric starter.Shutter control cable, water valve and fuel select dash knob have all been removed(i.e. discontinued). has push button type starter switch on dash. Now, someone cut a square hole in the lower left front of cockpit and bent the metal up and out so that while operating the tractor one can look thru the hole and see the flywheel. Can anyone guess why this might have been done?

I should say it looks to me like someone had some shaft or something passing thru there.
