6V Relay retrofit?

Of late I have added some accessories to vehicles which required the use of relays to activate. I am also in the process of finishing the wiring on my 55 Ford tractor which has a 6V positive ground system. I was considering whether the lighting system should be on a relay. I bought a new switch, but there"s no indication what it"s rated at. A relay would prolong it"s life. Do they make 6V relays like they do for 12V cars (spdt relay with terminals 85,86,30,87,87a)? If so, where are they available? I would think a relay may be of even greater advantage in a 6V system than a 12V. Presently I have the two headlights, instrument light, brake light, and rear worklight on the same switch. I"d like to put them on a relay. Any help appreciated.

Email em' and ask them what's it's contact ratings are.. then add in a 1$ inline fuse with the power feed to the switch.

If it were mine.. and all this had transpired thus far.. I'fd be inclined to return the switch for a refund.. then hit -ANY- lovcal store like napa or autozone, or car quest, or tractor supply and get a HD fused lamp switch.. vs installing an unknown one and then watching my tractor burn one day... A lamp switch is less than 10$..

brad, I agree a 6 volt relay oughta be easy to find but be sure n take notice of its contact ratings cuz a light wimpy one may not be rated much more then a good quality push pull switch ya know. Seems a tad overkill (use of relay) if you can instead purchase an industrial rated push pull switch of decent, maybe 15 amps or so, rating.

Your switch shgould show what it's contacts are rated at.. 6v headlamp switches are easy to find.

In any case.. i agree with Bob.. 6v relays are available.. even rat schack carries some. but a volkswagon parts place probably will to.

The relay you describe is commonly called a "Bosch-style relay".

Check antique Volkswagen parts suppliers for a 6-Volt version.
