Hi, I am currently restoring an unstyled 1941 John Deere AR. I took the pistons out to put in new rings and found minimal wear on the crankshaft journals as well as the connecting rod bearings. Each has about a two thousandth or less step running dead center. The connecting rod on cylinder two also has a five cent piece sized chip out of the connecting rod bearing. I believe the bearings are poured babbit and not sleeves. Would you replace everything or leave thigs how they are if you only plan on using the tractor for show? Any help woul be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot, Ryan

The babit gone is from the asid in the oil,
Change the oil it sits to much run it & change oil 1 a year, befor winter when it most likly dont run till summer.

Are your crank journals round ? and not tapered ? is that wear just a groove down in like wear from the oil hole area ? If round and not tapered it should be fine. That chunk of babbit missing could be a problem if it goes out to the edge where it can cause oil pressure to escape. You may be able to find a good used rod or get that one reconed. If just a hole in the middle I wonder if you could fill it in some with babbit or solder and get it to stick ?
