ok we are getting a new truck, 97 mack rd 688 the aluminum fuel tanks are not polished up to my par, (i cant see my reflection) any ideas of how and what to do to make them sparkle. Another question, the truck was previously lettered with vynl lettering, the dealer took this all off but i can still make out the faint outline of the letters if i look real close any ideas on cleaning this up, will i have to wet sand and repaint the whole cab and if so is this a job a normal shadetree mechanic such as myslef can do and still achieve proffesional results or should i just sand them as much as i can and have a qualified painter clean it up, i dont see spending all this money on a truck and having it come out looking like a 16 year old kid painted it up with a can of rustoleum.

Not experianced with cut polishing to the point where I'd try advising you on it my friend but about those tanks, if you really want to make em shine try NeverDull! It's the stuff that has the polish already soaked into the material, and looks kind of like cotton batton, you know? Abit of rubbing involved but the stuff really works wonders.

get a lambswool bonnet & polisher & use polishing compound on tanks(like for paint).the paint on doors has faded everywhere except where the letters were.only cure is to either repaint or paint a panel & letter like a sign over it.
