Ford 860: question on hydraulics

A few months ago the camshaft gear sheared off, apparently from metal fatigue as in replacing the camshaft and going through the tractor there was no apparent problem/cause for that to have occurred. Since replacing the camshaft (and the gears on both ends of it), the hydraulic system has not been functioning nearly as well as it did prior to the repair. The hydraulics are now sluggish and the lift height is reduced. The hydraulic pump and system pressure appear fine. Any ideas?

Its been a long time since I worked on one of them, but I think there is a plug where you can bleed out the air on the pump.I guess that you had to split the tractor to get at that gear on the back, dont really know, but if you did had to unbolt the hydraulic lines underneath of the tractor and drain it out.Its a good chance you have air in it if you did.You may need to ask somebody else the right way to do this, but if I remember right, while the motor is running you screw the allen headed plug,on the front top corner of the pump out untill you see the air bubbles come out.If it has air in it,might look white or have a bunch of bubbles in it.You might have to do this a few times to get all the air out.You also might want to leave the plug in just barely.Or be ready to shut the motor off quick,as it could be pumping a lot of oil out of there in a hurry. If you had to shut down the motor, you would probly have to bleed it again, but like I said, its been a long time for me to have worked on one of them, maybe somebody could tell you better on the Ford forum.
