I am restoring an old Farmall H that has an old corrosive and dirty gas tank. Can anyone give me some tips on how best to clean it out and restore it?

mauratic acid at TSC get 2 gallons $10.Did an M over this last weekend.Take sediment bolw off and plug first ( It will eat the bowl off).Drain old gas add acid """""Do Not Breath Vapors"""" And make sure there are no little ones running around.Let sit in tank for a day( every hour or so shake tank (Make sure gas cap is on).Drain and wash out with water(air dry) and your ready to roll.If you want to get real sopisticated you can then seal the inside of the tank (JC Whitney has cans of sealer).I do not reseal=original tanks weren"t.I clean it and run them

I took my old rusty 8N tank to a radiator shop. They boiled it out, however they do that, and then coated it on the inside with a sealer. Cost about $50 bucks, as I recall.

I, too, took my 8N tank to the radiator shop for boiling and steam cleaning. I opted not to seal it. I've heard a lot of stories of the sealant eventually failing and flaking off, clogging the system. Once you get it cleaned, and keep the gas tank full to avoid condensation as much as possible, you should be good for another couple of decades. Be sure to clean and replace all your filter screens and maybe even the fuel line while you're at it.
