Inherited my dad's JD M Series tractor. It has been converted to a 12 volt system. While it was under shed rodents apparently damaged wiring which had been poorly installed in the first place. Have been unable to locate a 12 volt conversion kit with instructions. Therefore, really don't know how to repair this problem. Does anyone know where I can find a conversion kit or instructions?

Howdy. I just finished a J D 40-w. I converted it to 12 volt neg. ground. If you have a single pole alternator, you can connect it to any positive terminal. I chose the pos. terminal on the battery. A volt meter replaced the ampmeter. A hot wire to the ignition switch provides power to the dash. I installed a key switch. Run a wire from the ig terminal on the switch to the neg. side of the dist. I installed a two position light switch. Put a positive jumper to the light switch and wire the lights. If the tractor is already 12 volt, the rest should be easy. R W

Most of those conversion kits were home made so to speak. First of all what kind of alternator is being used and if it is a Delco has it been converted to a single wire unit?
