Hi gang, I have a question about the pump on my 8n tractor? It"s a Davis loader and the issue is it seems to be starting to slip either in the pump or where it attaches to the motor? Do I need to rebuild the pump or can I replace it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Darin

Common problemn with age. Most of them have a spline shaft and a hub that is splined to work with the shaft. Sort of like a PTO shaft just up front. Not to bad a job to fix but you should replace both the shaft and the hub or it will happen again BTDT and found out you have to replace them both or the parts will brake again very soon. Costs around $70-100 for the parts

Thanks for the response. Are the parts available to purchase through the web page or do they need to be fabricated?

This site, and or value bilt has them as do most good tractor dealers because that set up is very common on a good number of different type/models/brands of tractors

Is it a splined shaft? They wear out with age, especially if not well aligned.

Hi JMS/MN I think it is I haven't taken it apart yet. The pump is front mounted and the shaft runs to the motor with a coupler one third the way to the motor. It has sprokets and chain to hold the two together. The pump was moving away from the motor and the mounting braket had washers used for shims, so I removed some and got it to work. I know its not the permanent fix but I can't find the parts yet. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Darin
