Tractor will not do anything when turning keyswitch to start. I have charged battery, changed switches, and changed solenoids. Tractor will run when hot-wiring coil and jump-starting from starter.

Well first, I want to thank all of you for your suggestions. I've taken the responses and used as a check sheet for debugging. All the responses were contributing factors. The gear-shift neutral switch - corrosion, no good contact.
The keyswitch - blades were oxidized. The ampmeter wires - corrosion and short in one of the push-on terminals. SHE NOW STARTS AND RUNS LIKE NEW!!!

I have a JD 112 must be in neutral to start sometimes I have to push the gear shift lever forward onto the neutral safety switch to make the connection .It will start then whether the Pto is engaged or not, no safety switch on PTO the wires on the gearshift safety switch sometimes come off, then nothing happens Look under neath in the area of the gearshift for a plastic plug hanging loose that should be connected to the safety switch.

Theres a safety switch for the pto. It's behind the dash. Make sure the pto lever is pulled all the way to right. If that doesn't do the trick, try bypassing the switch.

Definitely try by-passing the PTO safety switch. I had the same problem. It looked like it was returning to the "safe" position, but I later noticed that it actually wasn't and was hanging about 1/4 inch from that point. I simply hooked the 2 wires together and eliminated the need for the switch. Keep in mind though that this will allow your tractor to be started while the blades are engaged!! Not safe, but cheaper if you are careful.

The only other switch I came across was the neutral switch in front of the gear shift. You could try by-passing that one too to test it.

If the above fail, you may have corrosion where wires slide onto a connector. One by one, take them off and lightly sand the corrosion and maybe even put on some di-electric grease.

Good luck.
