I know this is a tractor forum, but I am unable to find a golf cart one. My issue is an electrical one, I have a 36 volt elec. cart (6 6volt batts.) I tried to install fog lights to it and blew out my bulbs but not the 30amp fuse. I hooked it to battery #3 & #4 in the bunch and figured that's why this all happened. My question is where can I safely hookup my wiring to ensure proper voltage, and no overload.Any help would be greatly appreciated on the electrical issue and or finding a golf cart forum. My e-mail adress is jz_00_2000@msn.com. Thanks for your time.

I have a different electrical issue. We took our cart out for first time since last fall. We have fairly new batteries so they held their charge over the winter storage. We took it out for a spin to check it out. We put in the key and put the F-R switch in forward. Stepped on the accelerator and whoosh off we went in fast speed. Same in reverse although slower because of course it is only half speed. After a few minutes of riding we went to stop and cart kept running without pressing accelerator. Turned off key and it still ran. Had to shift F-R switch to Neutral. Let it sit. Tried F-R without key on and same thing....whoosh off it went into fast speed without pressing accelerator. Could it be the master solenoid causing this if it is stuck?

you need to connect to 12 volts. if all 6 batteries are connected together, then the first one has the negative terminal connected to ground and the positive terminal to the negative on the second batter, then positive to the neg on third battery, etc. the last batter has the positive connect to the starter or solenoid. you can connect the lights to the positive on the second battery and the other side of the light to the car frame, or ground. or negative side of one and positive side of no 2. that is 12 volts. if you connect to battery 4, and the light case is grounded (battery no 1) you might have got 24 volts into the headlight.

Good analysis. I would not have thought of the lights grounding through the frame! Great job with little information to work from.

In an electric golf cart, DO NOT ground the batteries to the frame. Not one, or two, or any of them. Look at your charger receptacle, pick out the side that is positive, and follow that wire to the battery. This is battery number 1.
This battery will have it's negative post hooked to the positive post of battery number 2. Hook your lights to the positive post of battery 1 and the negative post of battery 2. This gives you 12 volts. Please fuse the hot side of your light circuit. Now you should have lights.
