I have an M thats a work horse but as of late it is smoking colored at idle and under a load I am getting oil specs all over my shirt. Last evening I took the exhaust off and looked down and it seems as if I have a puddle/pool of oil where the manifold and pipe for the exhaust come together. It also sounds like dhis missing and then kicks in and smoothes out. This hit/miss is sometimes not all the time. Any suggestions. The oil has managed to run down the exhaust pipe from where the muffler attaches and turn the carb and air cleaner attachment point all a black oily mess. She still runs strong but now she is started to balk at running at all she tends to want to stall out??? Thanks Skip I have yet to compression test her, i thought somebody out there might have some insight. anyone know where i can get a sleeve puller that is made for the M I know you can make one I was wondering if anyone knew where I could purchase one. thanks

gonna be either rings or valve guides passing oil. you would probably be better off at this time to at least do an inframe overhaul if the main and rod bearings are still good. you can make a sleeve puller with some 3/4 all thread rod and a disk to grab the sleeve on the bottom. some of the guys here put a few beads of weld in the sleeve and get em to come out easy without a puller. i havent tried it but they say it works good. here is apicture of a couple of sleeve pullers.
