Hello: I have a John Deere Model H manure spreader. It has bed rust on the bottom side edges of the bed. It has rusted through in many places, leaving open gaps in the metal on the bed, and on the sides. It is not terrible, but bad enough to really bug me. Does anyone know what the typical fix is for this problem? Is there some type if liner I can add to it? Do you know of anyone using wood to replace or cover the steel bed on an H? Thanks. George

Common on steel sides, no matter the floor. Doing the same repair on one of mine- had some steel sheet sheared (12-14 ga.) and bent at 90 degrees, about 8 inches up the side, and bottom is wide enough to go under the apron chain. Gives a new wear surface for the chain which is over a wood floor. Bolt in place with round head bolts so the slats do not catch. Spreader is an '82 model, built a new beater a few years ago since JD does not have those parts anymore. I always go with thicker than original steel. Built the beater out of quarter-wall well pipe. Will outlast the spreader.

Thanks: That is just about what I was thinking, although I had planned to go just a couple of inches up the sides. Eight inches is even better. Much appreciated.
