Schebler TCX 12 has a cork float. How do you reseal the float? Or is there a replacement made of metal. Or is there a replacement carb. thanks.

Asked the question on the AOMCI site and the replies were tank sealer, Super Glue Gel and Model Airplane Fuel-Proof "Dope". And of course also "it's kind of dumb to dimk around with trying to fix and old cork float if a modern material one can be found" I suppose you could take the float to a marine dealer or small engine repair shop to see if they could come up with something that would work.

I'd try Robert's carb. repair for a new one and if they don't have them you may have luck coating it in gas tank liner.

John deere has new metal floats for those carbs. Thanks for the info on repairing the cork, that kind of information is getting harder to find these days. CalJim

I can not find a john deere metal float for the TCX Carb. There seems to be plenty of metal floats for the TSX which is a larger carb and was on the later 38 unstyle L. The measurement for the earlier carb is 1 15/16 as compared to the later 38L that measures over 2 1/4 inches on the mounting studs.

The following applies to any cork float. To reseal allow the float to dry completely. Should be of little noticable weight when dry. Next step is to paint or dip in a varnish/laquor. Allow to dry and repeat 3-4 times to insure complete coverage. Last step is to reinstall and not to use Ethanol based fuels. Learned this from the Antique Outboard Motor Collectors International club.

Thanks for the tip on the varnish/laquer dipping. I have herd that the new fuels may cause a negative reaction. however I will give it a try and test on a wine cork. I used fingernail polish and it fell of after three days in the test jar. Thanks
