can`t remove distribtor cap to get to the points

If it is indeed a 6-cylinder Ford flathead Funk conversion, the cap will be held on with two snap clips, and should come off with the clips unsnapped. If it's rusted in place, you may have to get a little rough. If the cap happens to break, you'll have to replace it.

Are you having trouble removing the "dust cap" that sits under the rotor?

The rotor needs to come off, as well as the little steel clip on the shaft, that keeps the rotor snug. Then, the dust cap will come off.

All those parts simply pull off, but they may put up a bit of a fight!
