Having bought a Crank start mechanism (on this site from a fantastic Person) I now have a dilema. I have removed all old parts from the old mechanism (Farmall M) except for the piece that comes out the front with the eye on the tractor side. Tell me how this shaft comes out from the tractor: 1. Does the bottom pulley on the motor get removed ? or do I have to remove the Frame bolts from the wd. frt end and move the bolster forward enough to slide that Beautiful arm out Or? What are my chances of snapping those bolts off in the frame since 1951?
Thanks for any help in this regards.

skip, i am pretty sure you will need to remove the front bolster to get the starting crank drive out. it should come out on the side that faces the crankshaft. i have had pretty good luck getting the front frame bolts out, spray them up good with pb blaster. the backside of the bolt holes open up on the inside of the casting, so you can spray em from the backside and let them soak. you are gonna need to block the tractor real good, and use an engine hoist to walk the bolster forward out of the rails. loosen the bolts that hold the frame rails to the bellhousing, and pry the rails loose from the bolster a little to free it up.
