Unless you"re sure your float is pretty dry, DON"T heat it, thinking the leftover gas will slowly vaporise and escape out the leak...(don"t ask!)...

Make sure the float has no liquid inside. Put it in a freezer for a couple hours. Then put the float in a container of very hot water, the cold dense air in the float will expand forming bubble(s) along the crack. Works sometimes, sometimes not.

If there"s no fuel in the float, submerse it in a can of fuel and hold it down. Wait about an hour or so. When there is some fuel in it, dry it with a towel and you may have to use a magnifying glass but you will be able to see the leak when the moisture begins to gather on the outside of the float. I had this problem with a dltx 51 carb on a 1951 John Deere G. Once you find the leak, you can enlarge the hole slightly to allow the fuel to drain out and then solder it closed. R W

I dipped the one in my Oliver 66. Just have to make sure it's absolutely dry before you put it back together and be sure it's bent perfect so it isn't touching the carb casting anywhere. That stuff makes them a little sticky and if it touches anything it will either stick open or closed.

That would probably seal the leak, but the added weight would more than likely cause other problems. Chances are you can drop a little solder near where the float and hinge come together and take care of your leak.
