I have a customer who was using his 8N. he stopped and when he came back it would not start. He has replaced the carburator, the spark seems to be fine. I was able to get it to fire a couple of times,it would run for about 3 seconds and then fade out and die. when it does fire and die, liquid fuel runs out of the intake side of the carb. I reinstalled the orginal carb and the same thing happens. have disassembled both carbs and cannot find anything wrong there, and, like I said it has spark. (the engine was recently rebuilt.) I have been a mechanic for 25+ years and this one has me baffeled. Thanks much for any help that I can get.

Heres a few thing I would try. Turn on the gas, count to say 100 then turn it back off. Try to start it. If it runs turn the gas back on. If it doesn't then its probably an ignition problem and it may have a bad condenser or switch on it. The ignition switches are a weak part and cause some funny problems. Jumper across the switch and see what happens. The N series tractors are also known to flood easy and it may have fuel fouled plug, clean or replace them Autolite 437s work real good in the N series

Basics would be (1) compression check (2) timing/spark check (3) fuel check

If you have taken a compression check and are sure the timing is correct and have spark at the plugs, with the carb off I would spray a mist of starting fluid into the manifold to see if I could keep it running that way. If it runs it will tell you what you do not need to think about anymore.

Those tractors did have a lot of point problems. Shut the durn things off and had to file the the points to get it restarted.

The only thing that I can think of that will make gas run out the carb is a bad float or trash under the needle and seat. If there is trash coming from the tank to the carbs, it could do the same with both of them.
