I would like to convert the oil bath breather system to a filtered system on a 1959 John Deere 730 diesel. I have found a breather that i can use on it. It is the same in diameter, but about 2 inches shorter. The problem is that the raw(dirty) air is going to come down the center of the filter, which is where the clean air needs to be, and the clean is going to flow around the outside of the filter, where the dirty air needs to be. Is there a plate, or a conversion kit or something that i could find to convert the air to flow correctly through the filter? How well does the filter hold to the unconsistant pull of air? Or should i even convert it over? I am afraid I will creat too much blockage and not get enough air to the motor if i make something, and have the possibility of it not sealing up. Any tips and help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I agree with Bob.. the oil bath design was pretty good for the engine.

replaceable element filters are pretty good sources of income for companies..

WHY mess with something that's ALREADY a good setup, and works well? How restictive will a paper element get when it gets soaked with oil mist???
