My brother bought a 2000 Ford gas burner. At idle the engine knocked. When you idle it up the knock would stop. He tore it down and found when he pushed out the #2 piston the sleeve came up. He got the piston out and pulled the sleeve out with his hand. If anyone has a solution to this problem, please reply. There is no apparent damage to any parts.

Make sure that the head is holding the sleeve down tight. When the sleeve is installed measure how high it sets above the block, should be at least .003-.004 above.

3 cyl or 4 cyl 2000? Was the engine sleeved originally or is it a repair sleeve? Oversize sleeves are available for some engines. Loctite makes a sleeve retaining compound that works pretty well. Some people use a thin epoxy. I have seen a few N series Fords slip sleeves and some perkins over the years, not all that uncommon.

I had a jubilee do that. I used loctite, just the plane strong one, not sleeve retainer. It worked 4 or 5 years I know. Don't know how much longer because I sold the tractor. The sleeve was so loose I also pulled it out with my hand. I cleaned the sleeve and bore real good lacquer thinner then brake cleaner.
