Belly casting repair or replacement on WD

Glad to find this forum. I have a WD with a problem and would appreciate some advise. Hit a hidden stump with my brush hog and broke the little PTO casting under the belly...but the big problem is that two of the 4 studs (both on the same side) broke off letting the casting twist sideways and break out the belly casting to the outside. My question is, can they be successfully welded and re-tapped or should I just bite the bullet and replace the belly casting? I have a salvaged WD that is good from the motor back, but I'm not sure what all is involved and if I really want to tackle it. How do you go about removing it...do you remove or loosen one side-rail....slide it out to the front on what?

Did it "de-toothify" the pto drive gear? (the one in the tractor) If not, a reputable weld shop will fix you up ok, If you're not well versed in the welding dep't. There is a good lesson about brush hogging with wd & wd45's in there, though.

Best to replace it since you already have one. That"s the torque housing you"re talking about. Loosen the side rails, and start removing castings out to the front, or if you want to leave the donor tractor on its wheels- remove one side rail and pull castings out the side. Good time to check the hand clutch discs for wear, and use the set that is best, or put new in. Check the bronze yoke on the hand clutch for wear. Mostly labor involved. Also can renew the seals on the clutch shaft, etc. and gaskets between castings. Takes care of those little oil leaks.

Pretty much forget welding it. To do so you would need an oven you could put it in and then weld it then bake it again and let it cool slow. Bit the bullet and replace it. I have one like that my self and its now just a parts tractor, but I did save enough of it to make another tractor from 2 bad ones
