HI, I Have a 41 unstyled John Deere AR that was full of water and sludge in the rear end. All of the rear end lube turned to jelly. What is the best way to get the sludge out of the bottom? Is it alright to try putting gasoline or diesel fuel in the rear end to dissolve the sludge or does it need to be ripped apart? Thanks for your help, Ryan

Ryan, your question pretty much depends on time and circumstances...you didn't say how long the water was in there, or whether it was run or worked with water contamination. I'm not familiar with your machinery, but if it's been messed up long enough to gel, it sounds like you need to eyeball it (assuming your post doesn't mean you already have), if there's any way to do so without a complete teardown.
I assume when you try to flush it it'll be jacked up and under no load; when you drain your flushing fluid, use a clean pan and look for rust particles or metal shavings (we used to use a little magnet, altho some metal wasn't magnetic)...

Ryan , I would use diesel or kerosene , run the gears some and drain. If you can, open it up and wipe out the bottom. I also have a 41 AR ,last one built in 41. Ron Mn.
