GAS TANK REPAIR

i know this topic has been run into the ground but can someone give me a correct simple yes/no answer for the following question? if i prep the outside of my massey 410 gas tank (bottom side by seam) can i overlay all my previous patches with a fiberglass patch along the whole bottom and will it stick and stay?

Once you get all of the fiberglass off cut out the rusted parts and sheet the whole area with a piece of galvanized sheetmetal. If you use a soldering copper you don't have to worry about fumes igniting, either. 8)

I'd say no.But I'd say no to fiberglass for a gas tank repair anyway.

if you apply glass over an old patch, it prolly wont last long. is the old patch weeping fuel? if so , the patch is already separating, and should come off before applying a new patch. i would recommend you have a liner put in the tank first to keep the fuel off the patch. if the bottom of the tank is really bad with bigger holes, you may need to patch first, then put the liner in.

I know this doesn't answer your question, but I used Napa's red coat tank liner last year and it works excellent. But you do need to remove the tank to use it. Dave
