I just bought my First Farmall H, a 1949. The distributor sit's vertically on the engine. All other H's I have seen sit horizontally. It also has a dipstick and a upper& lower check plug on the pan. I am almost sure it is all original. If any one has any info on this I would really appreciate it. Larry

The Vertical distributor is a aftermarket manufactured by Delco Remy. It also fits on other makes and models of tractors. The oil dipstick is aftermarket, some are made by Heisler or M&W, they are hard to find and are worth a lot of money.

Andy.

Not original. The distributer is an aftermarket made by Delco, meant to replace a mag before IH distributers were commonly used. Dipsticks came into being in the 50's, 1949 is too early, either someone drilled and put one in or you have an engine off of something else such as a power unit or a later model engine. More definitive info on the Farmall forum.
