Just purchased a 72 or 73 1466. When driving on the road in high gear both front tires will develop a severe wobble. Can someone give me tips on what to look at first?

You might also want to check the toe-in. My dads 8n Ford does that because he has it set with "zero" toe-in. His reasoning is so the outside edges of the front tires don't wear off. There must be alot of truth to it because that tractor has had alot of use over the last 30 years and the front tires have worn evenly across the surface.

My 1466 did the same thing which I fixed about a year ago. I replaced all the tie rods which did some help at tightening her up. But the biggest thing that helped was replacing the steering arms. These arms attach to the knuckles by a fine spline. The knuckle splines were fine but the splines in the stearing arms were paper thin. Ordered me 2 aftermarket arms, installed them and now the wobble is about gone. My next project is to replace some of the axles pivots (ball, lower front pivot, etc) to make the entire front end like new.

Hope this helps.

We had a Ford 7600 that would do that. Never could find any really excessive wear in the steering / wheels etc. It only did it with a light front end, and at a specific speed, both front wheels would wobble side to side together. Leaving the front weights on cured it, so that’s what we did. Maybe try some weight on the front.

could be a number of things. first check for bent wheels. jack up one side at a time, spin wheel and check it. also when its up, grab tire and try and turn it. look for worn ball joints. next check steering knuckles for wear, grab tire and try and pull it in and out. look for movement in the knuckle, pretty sure there are bearings in there that are not uncommon to go out. check wheel bearings for wear also.
