Fuel Tank Repair

I recently found some small pin holes in the gas tank of our 8N Ford Tractor.
I have removed old paint and build up, cleaned, steel brushed and sanded to bare metal. Covered entire area with JB Weld. Now I need to remove the filter screen and also remove some rust from the inside.
Would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks,
Carl

Remove the JB weld.

Put some roofing nails, a short length of chain, small sharp gravel or something similar into the tank and shake back and forth turning the tank over from time to time and this will remove the rust.

Flush tank with soapy water and rinse several times. Let dry for a day or two. Using a fan or hair drier in the filler open will speed this drying process to a few minutes.

Coat the inside of the tank with a fuel tank sealer using the instructions on the can. You can even use it on the outside in pitted areas to increase the filler thickness a little in weak areas.

Or you can put your nails and stuff in the tank, cap it, and put in the back of your pickup and drive it around for a week, does a good job of sloshing and scouring. John in Nebr.

Jerry B. thanks for the tips.
I was not aware that gas may eat through the JB.
How long before it leaks again??
I am still not sure about removing the fuel screen. it does not look like it just screws out.
will have to clean the area much better to see for sure.

I have put JB weld on some small engine tanks and it has held for several months before leaking again.

Your screen should come out with the fuel line fitting at the bottom of the tank.

The screen i'm refering to is the one in the main nozzle fill hole for the tank.
The screen in the bottom attched to the fuel bowl comes out when the bowl is removed.
