I have been searching the forum and could not find anything so I am asking.. Is there any mechanisms (?) or apparatus thats supposed to be inside my 1951 TO 30 fuel tank? I can feel and hear something sliding around inside, and I cannot think of what it can be.. Before I start removal I wanted to ask and see if anyone else might know what is supposed to be inside if anything. Thanks in advance for any answers..

The baffle that was supposed to prevent fuel sloshing was poorly designed and breaks off. It slides around in the tank and keeps stuff stirred up in the fuel. My TO-30 has the same problem. I"ve thought about cutting it open to remove it then welding it back together, but i have too much other important stuff to do, so it way down on the priority list.

I have the same problem as you with my To30. Apparently, it is a baffle that is supposed to form a small "reserve" fuel tank inside the larger tank. They apparently weren't welded in very good and break loose over the years. The shut off valve at the fuel sediment bowl mentions open fully for reserve...I can't remember exactly what it says without going to the barn to look at it. I'm just leaving mine loose in the tank as it would take a tank welder/repairman to open it up to get it back into place.

Ahh, still trying to win a bid for the manauals! Thanks for the information that makes me feel better I was thinking maybe the PO had dropped something inside or some liner might be coming free. I may see what I can do over next winter to fix this noise.
