Ford 3600 PTO Problem

I have a 74" Ford 3600. The PTO shift lever will not stay in the rear or "engaged" position if a load is encountered while operating the tractor. Any sort of strain on the system will pop the PTO engage lever forward and out of gear.

Is there an easy fix to this problem that anyone is aware of?

Thanks.

Negative on the in/out play. The lever is very "loose" going front to back though in my opinion.

It should have a detent position.. might be the detent is bad. can you hold it engaged and have it work? If so check the parts diagram to see what you have behind the plate. and/or get a bunji cord to hold it engaged.. etc.
