Our chipper has a 4 cylinder Perkins diesel engine that keeps losing it's prime and won't start without bleeding the system. Then it runs o.k. Can't find the leak. Have replaced the fuel pump, all lines and don't know what to do ? Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

If the new lift pump is good then if it is getting fuel it will pressureize your system. You either have a pinhole leak in the fuel line between the lift pump and the bottom of the tank, some kind of blockage of the fuel line or a plugged in tank filter. My old Massey had an in tank filter which was a bad idea the day they built it. One way to check this is take a piece of rubber hose and run it between the suction side of your lift pump and a clean container of fuel. If the system works sucking out of a clean tank then you know where the problem is.

Hello,
Put a check valve in the fuel line just before the hand pump. you can get them from a JD or case dealer. Good Luck Ed

air must be gettin somewhere, take a can of wd 40 and while its running spray all the fuel system if the engine suddenly speeds up you found it, see if that finds anything
