I do not think much of overhauling with engine in machine. This one is easy so lay engine on side.Insert old piston in upside down from top and rings will pop out below sleeve. Thake long bar and hammer and drive old piston and sleeve from bottom. You will damage piston but you do not need it anyway.

I've heard of guys packing the cylinder with dry ice to really cool it down and shrink the sleeves. Might want to add something Kroil or WD 40 to lube things up.

Rig up a puller or rent one. That's the easiest.

Good luck.

When you say "i am trying to knock them out from the bottom" I hope you mean that you are trying to push them up from the bottom.
You probably need a sleeve puller. They are not hard to make, but you need a disk on the bottom of it that has an outside diameter the same as the O.D. of the sleeve in order to pull the sleeve out. I don't have a picture of one or I would post it for you.
You may want to post this question on the Farmall/IH board, somebody on there may have an idea that could help you.
