Thursday night a show by www.twoguysgarage.com [formerly "Shade tree mechanics] had an excellent show showing how an expert welder from Lincoln Welders welds a broken cast iron block without any heat. The key was low amps and short beads. The entire segment can be seen by going to the website, it's well worth the time. Hope this can help someone out there.

The clip was real good, except for peolpe that do weld would like to know how the polarity was set? Straight or reversed! I have a head that I in the process of porting out and got into a water jacket that I have to weld back closed.
