To start with, Ralph mentioned about the valve adjustment. If you did have the head planed and you didn't re-adjust the valves then they are too tight causing them to not close completely.

This might sound like a stupid question but are you sure you have the firing order correct, head touqued properly and head gasket lined up right?

Anyways, you said that you sent the head out and had it re-worked. You're doing things right and I don't imagine the problem is going to be a big one.

Don't panic. Remember the "KISS" principle (keep it simple stupid). Often times the problem is so obvious that we tend to overlook it. Take a step back and fix any obvious problems first.

first thanks for both returns

checked things over again found 3 pushrods
that were really loose, snugged them up
to manuals .002 gap runs really smooth
but still runs at half throttle all the time.
something messed up in the govoner?

again thanks for reply

I don't know much about the Farmalls, but I'd think .002 is way too tight for a valve clearance.

Did you have the head resurfaced? You could have a warped head or cracked as for the antifreeze. check your valve lash, you may have a valve or valves not closing all the way.
