I have a 1951, FARMALL "M" that I am preparing to paint...the tin is nearly perfect....It has 4 or 5 small dents on top of the radaitor shell..I can handle the body work...It has never been repainted and always kept inside..Should I have the radiator checked out...? Some of the gaskets show oil seapage, but not fresh ,it's dry to the touch....I am thinking these gaskets should be replaced anyway....I want to drop the oil pan and clean it and adjust the valves ,so I know I'll replace those two gaskets....Should I ask for each gasket or should I buy a overhaul set....I won't need the head gasket. The tractor was overhauld two years ago..the bearing covers on the front wheels show dried grease stains ,but not leaking...how do you ask for those gaskets.....govener cover showes the same type dry oil stains..... I am going to drain and flush all the fluids...I would like to hear from you guys and girls about how you did yours....I am very pirticular,I want this tractor to look better than when it was new..... I am not afraid of work !.....Now I'am going to move down and ask the paint boys on how it should be prepaired for and painted.....

Go to your local auto parts store, look at the aerosol cans of degreaser, you'll find just what you're looking for to take the old grease and oil stains off. If it was all redone only two years ago, I don't think I'd touch a thing. Paint it and drive it awhile to see what demands attention then. Why ask for more work? Unless there is evidence of a really big leak. The grease stains om the front wheels are probably from overgreasing, btw, you would ask for new frontwheel grease seals, if you just had to replace them. Then ask a body painter, what his favorite degreaser would be, to get it ready for paint. John in Nebr.

I certainly have no problem with Bermuda Ken. I use the local dealer because they have next day delivery, same with the (gasp) local JD dealer -- delivered on the SAME truck from Kansas City.

I don't know if there is overhaul gasket kit. Separate gaskets can be had from your Case-IH dealer. You should really get a parts manual first. Then take the numbers to the parts guy and he can order them for you. I am currently working on a C and am replacing only those that were obviously leaking. Haven't seen a tractor yet that there wasn't some seepage -- a puddle is another matter. If you fix it up and find more leaks, you can get them then.
