I am looking for help finding parts for the delco remy starter on my 1945 Farmall B. Specifically I am looking for a part to replace the existing foot operated starter switch that is mounted on the starter houseing. I am converting the electrical system to 12 volt and would like relpace the switch with a stud and use and exsternal starter relay for added security and safety. I know that the part existes because I have seen other makes of tractors equiped with deloc starters that had a stud instead of the foot operated starter switch and that use an external starter solenoid. I have looked in the NAPA Echlin book, but have been unable to locate the proper part. A suplier or part number would be exstreemly helpfull.

Thank you for your help!

Try going to your local NAPA Parts Store. If they can't help you out they will most likely know someone that can.

I had the same problem till I located a 12 V replacment,I used the original push type and made a U shaped strip of sheet metal, compressed the spring then used pop rivets to hold it down. The solenoid was then connected to the closed switch worked well. A new stud might be found at an aut-electric shop and due to the fields being soldered or brazed they would be better to do the job.

Somewhere around there should be someone with a pile of old Delco starters, even automotive type. Am sure you could scavenge what you need from a used one. Don't see where you would gain in the safety aspect? Always liked the simple method of that rod operated starter, tho. John
