I am restoring a "35 John Deere B. I am assuming I do not paint the black magneto cap green, but what about the rest of the magneto? Do I paint the mag housing? Also, What about the hoses that connect the radiator to the in/out pipes. Originally, were these installed before the tractor was painted, meaning they should be green? Or should I leave them black? Any help would be appreciated.

Jeff, Mike and Jerry are correct. These tractors were supposedly painted complete which the fully assembled tractor was painted green and then they installed the wheels, steering wheel and a few other items. But most good looking restorations do not do this. Most leave the hoses, mag, manifolds and such black. I think it looks alot better plus the green paint will burn off in about 3 minutes if you paint the manifold, muffler and exhaust with it. I have not seen any hi temp JD green. I too have a 35 B. I just finished it this spring. I have some pictures of my B and it's painted the way I see most restorations painted.

In my opinion, nothing looks worse on a restored tractor than when the generator, starter, carburetor, magneto, hoses, etc. are painted the same color as the tractor (even if they might have been that way from the factory). Somehow it always lacks that touch of neatness that separates a good restoration from an excellent one.

Jeff, I understand that the whole tractor was assembled then the paint was applied last so technically speaking, they would have painted it green. Since it is your tractor, I suggest making it however you think looks best. I have seen restored tractors both ways. You will hear the same thing about Generators and gas caps.
